I heard someone give a metaphor for life: “You are an oak tree.” Unaffected by the things that happen around you, you will endure the storms of life and come through unscathed.
I have also heard another metaphor, that of the willow tree: While the great oak is broken by the terrible fury of the storm too strong for its unyielding boughs to endure, the supple willow tree gives with the wind and survives the strongest storms.
For awhile, I felt like I was permanently broken. I realize now that I am coming back together again. Maybe not stronger than before; that strategy didn’t work for me. The strategy to be as tough as possible failed. The new strategy is to be more flexible — to be more like chewing gum than an iron bar.
Here’s some music, some with a positive message, another perhaps less so… but which is which? I invite comments below! Is music helpful, or is it just a placebo? Some kind of wave that has learned to propagate itself? That is the topic for another post, it seems…
